Austenitic Stainless-Steel Reinforcement for Seawater Sea Sand Concrete: Investigation of Stress Corrosion Cracking

Seawater and sea sand concrete (SWSSC) is a highly attractive alternative to normal (NC) that requires huge amounts of fresh water river sand. However, reinforcements stainless steel (instead mild used in NC) may be required for SWSSC. This article reports investigation stress corrosion cracking (SCC) AISI 316 (SS) simulated SWSSC NC environments, with without addition silica NC, employing slow strain rate testing (SSRT) at 25 60 °C. For the purpose comparison, SCC SS was also investigated seawater (SW) solution. showed no °C any test solutions. Indications were seen SW °C, but features as suggested by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) fractographs.
